About
The **Estonian Cup** operates as the nation's primary domestic knockout football tournament. Officially named the **Evald Tipner Cup** since 2012, the competition serves as the main pathway to European football for clubs that do not finish in the top four of the league. While the Meistriliiga champion enters the UEFA Champions League, the cup victor secures a place in the first qualifying round of the **UEFA Europa Conference League**.
The format distinguishes itself through a single-match structure across all rounds. Quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final are played as single legs, with the concluding match held at a neutral venue, currently the A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn. Participation is open to all registered clubs, ranging from the top flight down to amateur sides. For the current season, a new arrangement grants the top four Meistriliiga teams a bye to the Round of 16, allowing lower-tier opponents to enter from the first round. This shift aims to balance the field against the dominant clubs.
Tallinna FC Levadia holds the record for most victories with ten titles. The competition also determines the participant in the Estonian Supercup, where the cup winner faces the league champion. Unlike the league, where European spots cascade to the next highest-placed team, the cup qualification spot is effectively lost if the winner has already secured a European berth through league performance. This rule underscores the unique value of the tournament for mid-table and lower-division teams seeking continental exposure.
