Xilotepelt

Martín Mena coached Xilotepelt in three separate spells, in 2009–2010, 2010–2011 and again in 2012. When the club fell apart, it was Mena's name that came up again. He is credited with driving its revival in the lower divisions after 2013.

Xilotepelt went down from the Primera División in 2013, after years in the top flight. A planned merger with UCEM then fell through. In August 2013 the Nicaraguan Football Association (FENIFUT) excluded the club from the Segunda División, and the senior side effectively ceased to exist. Nothing was played from 2014 to 2020.

The club's roots are older and more modest than its top-flight years suggest. It began in 1969 as a community youth project in Jinotepe, the capital of the Carazo department, and that local footing is what the club rebuilt on.

Before the collapse, Xilotepelt drew some of the best-known Nicaraguan players. Emilio Palacios, the national team's all-time leading scorer with 11 goals, played here from 2008 to 2012 before going back to Diriangén.

The club returned in 2021 in the Tercera División (Liga 3), the third tier, and won promotion to the Segunda División (Liga de Ascenso) for the 2023 season. It still plays in that second tier, in yellow and blue at the 3,000-seat Estadio Municipal Mario Estrada Gomez, and it takes part in the Copa Nicaragua, where it has met Real Estelí. Xilotepelt has never won the league or the cup.
