Zvijezda Gradačac

The city of Gradačac already had a football side by the name of Vardar when a second club, Zmaj, formed in 1933. The two settled the question of which would carry on with a friendly rather than a season: Vardar won 3:0, and by prior agreement Zmaj disbanded. Vardar itself did not survive the outbreak of the Second World War, folding in 1941. It took until August 1945 for the game to return to the town, and when it did, the club came back under a new name, Zvijezda, and in the red and white it still wears.

Those colours split neatly down the kit: white at home with red trim, all red away. The club plays as Zvijezda Gradačac at Stadion Banja Ilidža, in front of 5,000 seats, and carries the nickname Zmajevi, the Dragons.

Zvijezda's history sits mostly in the second and third tiers of Bosnian football. The high point came in 2007–08, when the club won the First League of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, following it with a runner-up finish in 2015–16. In the top flight itself, a seventh-place finish in 2008–09 remains the best return. Lower down, the club has twice topped the Second League's North group, in 2005–06 and again in 2025–26, two decades apart.

Marijan Jugović, a Serbian forward, wore the shirt in the 2013–14 season, one name among a run of Bosnian players who passed through the squad. The story still runs back to that one friendly in 1933, the match that decided which of two clubs in the same small town would carry Gradačac's football forward.
