Alfonso Lastras Ramírez
Jacobo Payán Latuff, who owned the Moctezuma cement company and the Panorama hotel, put up the money and commissioned José Francisco Alfaro Sousa to design it; construction ran through 1998 and 1999.
The name honours Alfonso Lastras Ramírez, a former rector of the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí and a co-founder of Cachorros de San Luis. In January 2026 it changed: a sponsorship deal with Libertad Financiera turned the ground into Estadio Libertad Financiera, with the money directed towards the club and the infrastructure.
The stadium had hosted the national side before, in 2006, against Guatemala and Iran.
Real San Luis won promotion here in the 2002 Ascenso MX final against Veracruz; four years later San Luis survived the relegation play-off against Querétaro 2-0 and drew the first leg of the Liga MX final with Pachuca. In 2019 the second leg of the Ascenso final brought Atlético San Luis against Dorados, then coached by Diego Maradona.
After a match against Necaxa in January 2016, home supporters attacked the visiting fans' coach in the car park; shots were fired, and the club was fined and barred from playing two home games here. In 2024 a match against Juárez was suspended when the power went out.
