Beirut Municipal Stadium
Beirut, Lebanon
Beirut Municipal Stadium It was built by the French colonial administration during the Mandate period, though the exact date is contested; some records suggest it was completed by 1940 rather than the commonly cited 1935.
The Arabian Construction Company and LACECO were responsible for the work. Today, the surface is artificial turf, laid down in late 2020 after the natural grass deteriorated. The capacity is officially 18,000, though some sources list 22,500. The highest recorded attendance was 22,000 during a 1997–98 Lebanese Premier League match between Al Ansar and Nejmeh, a game Al Ansar won 4–2 to secure their ninth consecutive title. The stadium serves as a home ground for Al Ansar FC and has hosted matches for the Lebanon national team, Nejmeh SC, Racing Club Beirut, Bourj FC, Shabab Al-Sahel, and Al Ahed. The stadium has hosted Lebanese FA Cup quarter-finals and semi-finals, though finals are often held elsewhere. No former official names were found; it has been known as Beirut Municipal Stadium since opening.
