Al Ansar

The Beirut Municipal Stadium, known locally as Malaab Baladi, holds 18,000 and sits inside the city Al Ansar moved into in 1965, having started out in Ghobeiry. The ground is municipal property rather than the club's own.

What set the club apart came in a stretch that began in 1987–88: eleven league titles in a row, ending in 1998–99. That run ended in 1998–99, and it left Al Ansar with a domestic record no one in the country has matched — sixteen championships in all, the most recent two arriving back to back in 2024–25 and 2025–26.

The cup record runs to the same figure, sixteen, and the two competitions rarely came apart during the good years: the club took both in 1987–88, both again in 1990–91, and both once more in 2020–21, the season it also collected the Super Cup.

Support comes largely from Lebanon's Sunni community, and the green and white — green shirt, green shorts, white socks at home — is where the nickname comes from. The Green Leader, in Arabic al-Za'im al-Akhdar.

Salim Diab is the name most closely tied to the place. One of the founders, he took the chair in 1977 and held it until 2008 — thirty-one years, covering every one of those eleven consecutive titles from the boardroom. His successor Karim Diab lasted four years; Nabil Badr has been in charge since 2012.
