Bezirkssportanlage Kuhhirten

Two names still attach to the same site in Buntentor. The one in use is Bezirkssportanlage Kuhhirten, taken from Kuhhirtenweg, the lane it sits on. Before that it appeared as Sportanlage Stadtwerder.

The telling word in the current name is Bezirk — district. This is a municipal complex rather than a single enclosure, and it is laid out that way. The main pitch is natural grass, with room for 2,000 around it, and that figure is the ceiling for anything staged here: whatever comes to Kuhhirtenweg has to fit inside it.

Around the grass the site carries further pitches in artificial turf. Number 3 has floodlights, which is the detail that changes how the place is used: when the light goes early and the grass has taken enough for one week, the work moves across to the plastic and carries on into the evening. That is the practical difference between this ground and a single-pitch stadium of the same capacity down the road.
