Blacksmiths Oval

The suburb takes its name from a blacksmith's shop that once stood in the area, and the ground has never been called anything else. Blacksmiths Oval has carried the same name through the whole of its use as a football ground. Belmont Swansea United FC, founded in 1935 as Blacksmiths Rangers Soccer Club, has played here since its first season and has never moved.

The oval sits on Gommera Street under the management of Lake Macquarie City Council, one venue among the many the council keeps across the local government area. That municipal ownership explains the pace of change here. Lighting went in around 2024 and 2025, paid for by NSW Labor, to bring the ground up to the standard the National Premier Leagues Northern NSW requires of its clubs.

The surface is natural grass and the ground has stayed a football ground, hosting regular-season matches in the National Premier Leagues Northern NSW and, before that, Northern NSW State League Division 1. Newcastle Jets Youth used it as a home ground for a period before moving on.

What it does not have is a record book. No grand final has been played here, no attendance figure has been set down as the highest, and the year the oval itself was laid out has gone unrecorded. The club's 1935 founding is the earliest date the ground can be tied to with any certainty.
