The club began as Blacksmiths Rangers and it kept that name for two decades before the merged identity of two neighbouring towns took over. From 1956 it has been Belmont Swansea United — Belmont at the northern end of Lake Macquarie, Swansea at the channel where the lake meets the sea. The 1935 founding date sits behind all of that; the name change is the part that tells you what the club became, a side answering to a stretch of coast rather than a single street.

Home is Blacksmiths Oval on Gommera Street, with room for 1,500. The colours are bottle green and gold, and the nickname folded the two towns together again: the Belswans.

Success came in two separate bursts, thirty years apart. The first ran through the 1960s and 1970s in the Northern Second Division, where the club took the premiership in 1966 and then, in 1978, won both the premiership and the championship in the same season. Promotion followed. The 1985 Northern First Division premiership closed that era, and then the trophies stopped.

They resumed in 2018. Belmont Swansea won the Northern NSW State League Division 1 championship that year, retained it in 2019, took it again in 2022, and in 2024 finished top of the table across the season for the premiership. Three championships in five completed seasons is a rate the club has not managed at any other point in its history.

What that run has not produced is a move upwards. State League Division 1 sits below the National Premier Leagues in Northern NSW, and winning it repeatedly has left Belmont Swansea exactly where it was — a level the club has now dominated without clearing.
