The club traces its start to 1907, when miners from the Hebburn colliery formed a side of their own in a town that already had three: Weston Advance, Weston United and Weston Albions. The Hebburn men's club outlasted the others as Weston Workers Bears. Its black and white — vertical stripes on the shirt, black shorts, white-trimmed socks — points back to Newcastle upon Tyne in England, where many of those miners had come from, and where black had long been the local colour.
Weston play at what is now Hunter City Motor Group Stadium, a 1,000-seat ground that has carried several sponsor names over the years, including Weston Bears Park and Rockwell Automation Park.
Jimmy McNab and James Wilkinson were named to the club's Team of the Century in 2007, and Richard Johnson came up through Weston having joined the club at the age of five.
