The men who set up a football club in Broadmeadow on 9 April 1966 were Macedonian Australians. The suburb sits a couple of kilometres from the centre of Newcastle, and the club took its ground there — Wanderers Oval, known to everyone who goes as Magic Park . It holds 3,500, though only 500 of those are seats.
The first Premiership came in 1997, and a second in 2001, and a third in 2003 — but the finals series kept ending badly, with defeats in the deciders of 1997, 1998 and 2003. The Championship did not arrive until 2004. After that the two started coming together: 2005, 2008, 2011 and 2013 each brought both.
Then, in the last three seasons, the club has done something it had never managed before. The Charity Shield came with it in 2024 and 2026.
The women's side reached the same point by a shorter road. A Premiership in 2021, and in 2023 both the Premiership and the Championship.
The club remains semi-professional.
