Edgeworth Eagles

The first recorded match involving a Young Wallsend/Edgeworth side was played on 14 May 1892, which makes the Eagles one of the older football names in the Hunter region.

The club has spent long stretches at the top of Northern NSW football rather than passing through it. Back-to-back Northern First Division titles came in 1978 and 1979, the second sealed with a 3–2 win over Highfields Azzuri. A hat-trick of NNSW State League championships followed from 1998 to 2000, with a fourth added in 2002 after an extra-time win, again against Highfields Azzuri. Once the National Premier Leagues era began, Edgeworth turned it into their own competition for a decade, taking the title in 2010, then in six of the ten seasons from 2015 to 2020.

New Zealand international Jeremy Brockie spent 2021 and 2022 at the club and was named the NPL Northern NSW's best player and top scorer in his first year there. More recently the run of titles has turned into near misses: runners-up in the 2024 league table behind Broadmeadow Magic, and beaten finalists in the State Cup in both 2023 and 2024, against Broadmeadow and then Lambton Jaffas. Matches against Lambton and against Maitland carry the weight of local rivalry without ever needing a nickname attached to them.
