Braga Municipal
They cut it into the side of the Monte do Castro granite quarry. That is why Braga call it A Pedreira , the quarry.
The design is Eduardo Souto de Moura's, and it cost the council its argument for years afterwards. The municipality has owned it since.
Euro 2004 gave it two group matches and little more: Denmark beat Bulgaria here, then the Netherlands ran riot against Latvia. The bigger occasions have tended to happen elsewhere — the ground has taken Portugal internationals and Taça de Portugal semi-finals, including Porto against Braga in 2019, but never a final.
SC Braga came up from the Estádio 1.º de Maio when the place opened and have filled it once, in February 2010, for a 2–1 win over Marítimo. From 2007 the sponsors' name was on it, though the council kept insisting the official one had never changed; that arrangement lapsed in 2010. In 2018 the club paid for work by Souto de Moura again, mostly to double the number of lifts.
