Cancha Vicente Guerrero
Chilpancingo, Mexico
Formerly: Cancha Vicente Guerrero (before 2015)
The most immediate feature of this ground is the seating area that wraps around the pitch. You can see the geometry of the stands clearly from above; the colours do not fade into the grey concrete but sit on top of it in sharp blocks.
The playing surface is modern, a synthetic green that contrasts with the older infrastructure. This is not a relic of a different era. The turf was installed as part of a rehabilitation project in July 2022, replacing a natural grass pitch that had fallen into poor condition.
The ground sits within the Polideportivo General Vicente Guerrero complex. It is not merely a football pitch but part of a larger sports facility in Chilpancingo de los Bravo. The capacity is modest, holding around 5,000 spectators.
There is a weight to the name of the venue that exceeds its sporting function. It was renamed in 2015 to honor David Josué García Evangelista, a player who was killed in the 2014 Iguala mass kidnapping. The stadium belongs to Avispones de Chilpancingo and FC Santiago, who use it to host their matches in Mexico’s third tier.
