In the north of Nuevo León, La Chaguiza measures itself against Real Apodaca, and the meetings between the two go by the name Clásico del Norte, the Derby of the North.

Santiago started out in August 2017 as a youth side tied to FC Dallas, playing under the name FCD Bulls de Santiago in the Tercera División. Five years later, in August 2022, Santiago Fútbol Club was formed and dropped into the Liga TDP, the fifth tier. Promotion to Liga Premier Serie B came in 2023, then the Apertura 2024 title. The following season they beat Pachuca Premier 3-2 on aggregate to go up again, this time into Serie A. In between, they also took the Copa Conecta of 2025, beating Real Zamora in the final.
