Mineros de Fresnillo

Mineros de Fresnillo now play as a reserve side, feeding players up to Mineros de Zacatecas after Grupo ISLO took over the club's ownership and running of the team in July 2021. Honorio Campos chairs the club under Eduardo López Muñoz's group.

That wasn't the plan when local mining money set the club up in 2007. Its one real run came years later: the 2014 Torneo Apertura title in the fourth-tier Liga de Nuevos Talentos, won by beating Selva Cañera, then a promotion playoff victory over Tigres Sahuayo in 2015 that lifted Mineros into the Liga Premier de Ascenso. Nothing in the Serie A since has matched it.

Ozziel Herrera came through the club early on before he moved to Atlas and then América, a departure that fits a side better known for sending players onward than for keeping them. Ilian Hernández followed a shorter version of the same path, moving up to Mineros de Zacatecas.

Fresnillo has no rival within its own city walls — it is the only professional club the place has produced.
