Celtic Park

Celtic Park stands on the same ground the club has occupied since 1892, when a rent increase from £50 to £450 pushed the team off its original pitch just across the road and into the site it holds now. The stadium opened that year with a 4–3 win over Renton, and it has carried the same name throughout — no sponsor has ever bought the naming rights, and supporters still call it Paradise, a nickname that dates to the move itself.

The Hillsborough disaster forced the biggest change in its history. Once the Taylor Report required all-seater stadiums by August 1994, Celtic spent four years and £40 million rebuilding the ground from an oval bowl into the rectangular, four-stand arena that stands today, with capacity settling at 60,411. That figure is well below what the terraces once held before conversion, though the exact pre-1994 number has not survived cleanly in the record.

The pitch itself was Brendan Rodgers' project: in 2017–18 the club laid a hybrid surface, ninety-five per cent natural grass reinforced with synthetic fibre, at a cost of £2 million.

Celtic Park's attendance record belongs to an Old Firm derby on 1 January 1938, when 83,500 turned out — though the club's own historical accounts have at times pushed that figure closer to 92,000. The ground has hosted matches beyond league football too: Scotland played Ireland here in 1891, world track cycling championships arrived in 1897, and in July 2014 it staged the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, with Queen Elizabeth II in attendance. A few months later, in November 2014, England's national side made its first visit to Scotland since 1999, leaving with a 3–1 win.
