Central Republican Stadium
Construction began in 1939 to a design by Alexander Antonenko, then stopped when the war came. The first stage — a western stand for 5,000 — opened only in 1946, and the ground took the name of M.V. Frunze. It has been renamed since: Central Stadium after independence, and for years it was known simply as Pamir Stadium.
The largest crowd it has held came for no match at all. Between 3 and 5 June 1989, Alla Pugacheva performed here and drew 70,000 people.
The stadium sits in the Sino district, at the junction of Ismoili Somoni Avenue and Nizami Ganjavi Street, next to the Dushanbe zoo. Capacity today stands at 24,000.
The playing surface is synthetic. It was last replaced in 2018 under an AFC project, which is why the pitch is younger than almost everything else on the site — the stands date from the Soviet build. Istiklol play their home fixtures here.
