Istiklol kept their grip on the top of the Higher League with a 1:0 victory over Khosilot Farqor on Friday. The result from the Regular Season round 16 sees the home side extend their advantage at the summit.
Three points separate the two sides now, with Istiklol on 37 points and Khosilot Farqor on 31 after 16 matches each. The visitors remain in third place while the hosts have strengthened their position at the head of the table.
Istiklol's recent form has been impressive. They beat Parvoz 4:0 in their last outing before securing a 1:0 win over Ravshan Kulob. Only one defeat in their last 16 games — a 0:1 loss to Regar-TadAZ — has dented their campaign so far.
Khosilot Farqor have shown more volatility in their results. A 1:0 victory against Regar-TadAZ was followed by a 3:3 draw with Sardor Tursunzoda. Their attacking output has been considerable at times, including a 5:2 win over Istaravshan and a 6:1 thrashing of Eskhata.
The three-point gap means Istiklol are beginning to pull away from the chase pack. With 16 matches played and only 14 remaining, the home side are well placed to consolidate their position at the top of the standings.
