The story starts in Dushanbe in 2006, where Tohirjon Muminov set up the side and took the field himself as player-coach. Energetik won the First League that debut season and went straight up to the top flight. The name and the address both changed later: in 2015 the club took the name of its new backer, the national power utility Barki Tojik, and moved out to Hisor; a year after that it settled on Barkchi.

Hisor is a Khatlon-region town, and the club's closest rival plays out of Kurgan-Tyube — Vakhsh, sometimes known as Vakhsh-Bokhtar. The fixture carries no fixed name of its own, unlike the derbies in Khujand or Dushanbe, but the geography keeps it sharp.

Home games are played at the Ibrogimbek Gaforov Stadium. The team turns out in yellow shirts and socks with blue shorts at home, switching to blue with dark blue shorts away.
