De Geusselt

MVV Maastricht has played there since it opened in January 1961, and the ground has stayed exactly what it was meant to be: a compact home fixture for a city club, not a venue built to outgrow its own name.

The pitch itself sets it apart from most of its Dutch peers still working through grass. De Geusselt switched to an artificial surface, a decision that keeps the fixture list moving through the wet Limburg winters without the pitch cutting up under a full MVV schedule.

At 10,000 seats, it is built for exactly what it hosts — no expansion project, no tournament bid ever pushed it further. It sits on Stadionplein, in the sports park that once lent it a working name before De Geusselt stuck for good, and it has needed no other since.
