Dvorets Sporta imeni I. Kh. Romazana
Magnitogorsk, Russia
Formerly: Ice Palace, Ice Sports Palace named after I.Kh. Romazan
The sports hall on Lenin Avenue sits in the shadow of the city’s steelworks. It opened as an ice palace in 1990. The fans turned to the kids when the big arena was full, filling these 2,992 seats.
Then the ice melted. In 2007, the surface was ripped up and replaced with wooden parquet and a synthetic tennis court. The hockey team moved to the new Arena Metallurg down the road, a modern bowl that put the game to bed early with its comfort.
It was renamed in 1992 after Ivan Romazan, the plant director who died years before the building even went up. It does not matter. The hall is smaller than the main stadium, and it has never tried to be anything else.
