The most recent trophies at Magnitogorsk came in the 2023/24 season, and both teams won them. The men took the Higher League, their third title after 2007/08 and 2021/22. The women won the league's main trophy after reaching the Final Four on their home court, in front of a hall that seats 2,992.

That hall, the Palace of Sports named after I.Kh. Romazan on Lenin Avenue, has held the club through some uncertain years. The club began in 1989 as Kvant, a team built on a student side from Magnitogorsk State Technical University. Over the next years it carried the names Incomcenter, Kredo-Academy, Kredo-University, Metallurg-University, Magnitka-University and Dynamo. It settled on Metallurg, after the steelworks that define the city.

The highest point came in 1998. Third place in the Higher League earned promotion to the Super League, Russia's top division. The team stayed there until 2011, when a lack of funding forced it to withdraw. It was later restored and went back to national competition, this time from the second tier.

The 2021/22 title came in a season of upheaval off the court. The municipal institution "Basketball Club Magnitogorsk", registered on 26 April 1999, was liquidated through reorganisation on 30 December 2021, midway through the campaign. The team finished it as champions.

The cup has been less kind. Metallurg has reached the Russian Cup's last 32, last 16, last eight and quarter-finals, but has not won it.
