Dynamo Stadium (main, under reconstruction)

Bucharest's Dinamo ground has spent most of its life going by two names at once — Stadionul Dinamo on the badge, Ștefan cel Mare on the street sign — and by a third among people who actually went there: Groapa, the Pit, a nod to the sand quarry the builders dug it out of between 1948 and 1951. The ground opened with a match against Locomotiva Timișoara, and for decades afterwards it stayed exactly what a club built around it needs: a compact bowl on Șoseaua Ștefan cel Mare, close enough to the centre that nobody driving past would mistake it for anything else.

What set it apart from Bucharest's other grounds was never scale — 15,032 seats is modest by the standards of a capital city — but permanence. It kept its natural grass, its old bones, and its nickname through a 2007 refit, while stadiums built for one tournament and forgotten came and went around it.

That permanence ran out in January 2026. The old stadium is being taken down, and a consortium led by BOG'Art has begun work on a replacement on the same footprint, aiming for a 25,059-seat ground built to UEFA Category 4 standard, complete with a hotel, a museum and a helipad, due by 2028. Until then, Dinamo have no home ground of their own — matches have shifted to Arena Națională, training carries on at the club's Buftea base, on grass, the one detail the move hasn't changed.
