East End Park
The ground Данфермлайн Атлетик plays on today is not quite the one the club started with. Football was first played at Ист Энд Парк in 1885, the year the club formed, on a pitch a little to the west of the present one. In 1920 the club bought the current site from the Норт Бритиш Рэйлуэй company, moved across, and put up a wooden stand and a pavilion.
For twenty years from 1931, through the Depression and the years of postwar rebuilding, the club ran unregulated dog racing on tracks laid around the pitch. The main stands came later, in 1962, paid for out of cup winnings.
The crowd figures tell their own story. A gate of 20,000 in 1951 was followed by the installation of safety barriers. On 30 April 1968, against Селтик , 27,816 came through the turnstiles — still the record — and spectators climbed onto stand roofs and floodlight pylons. One man fell from a pylon and died.
The pitch itself was an experiment for two seasons. XL Turf, an artificial surface, went down in 2003 as part of a UEFA trial, and came up again in 2005 after players complained about the injury risk.
Of the matches played here, one is still repeated locally: 17 September 1966, Хиберниан visiting, Данфермлайн 0-4 down and level again, then beaten 5-6 by a goal in the 90th minute. More recently, in October 2025, Scotland's women played Switzerland here — the first time the national women's side had appeared in the town.
