epet ARENA (Stadion Letná)
The first proper stand, raised in wood in 1921, left the ground exposed when fire tore through it in 1934. Architect V. Slavík replied with a reinforced-concrete main stand in 1937.
It did, between 1967 and 1969, when Vladimír Syrovátka and Kiril Mandel cleared out what remained of the wooden terraces, replaced them with steel, and lowered the pitch into the bowl it still sits in. A further rebuild in 1994 pulled out the running track and turned every side over to seating. The grass has been heated and irrigated from underneath since 2001.
The record for a single night here dates to 25 October 1989, when a World Cup qualifier between Czechoslovakia and Switzerland drew around 34,000 people onto a hillside ground never built for that many. Locals still call it Letná, whichever sponsor's name is on the stand that season.
