Estadio 23 de Agosto
The ground sits in Barrio Luján, on land handed to Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy, and the club built on it and has occupied it ever since. That origin is still in the name: before it became the 23 de Agosto, after a date the province keeps, it was simply the Estadio del Barrio Luján. The club had played at La Tablada before it moved here.
What changed the place was a decision taken far away. In 2009 the Argentine Football Association confirmed Jujuy as one of the venues for the Copa América of 2011, and the work followed: all four stands widened, press boxes put in, fifty new boxes, dressing rooms, toilets and entrances redone, a large screen fixed to the north stand.
The Copa América matches were brief and one-sided. Colombia beat Japan 1–0 on 2 July 2011; five days later Costa Rica beat Bolivia 2–0.
Rugby came afterwards. On 24 June 2017 Argentina played Georgia here, the first test match on the pitch, and a fixture against Australia is scheduled for 29 August 2026.
Between matches the ground works as a civic space. It is the main site of the province's Fiesta Nacional de los Estudiantes, and in December 2024 María Becerra played here on her world tour.
