Estadio Arsenio Erico
Asunción, Paraguay
Formerly: no data
Nobody in Asunción calls it by its full name. La Visera — the visor — is what people say, a nod to the roof line over the main stand, and the nickname has outlasted whatever formal title the ground once carried. It sits in Barrio Obrero, a working-class quarter that has grown up around Club Nacional the way certain neighbourhoods absorb a club into their own identity, so that a walk down Avenida Pedro Juan Caballero on a matchday tells you everything about who plays there without a sign.
The ground dates back to 1904, which places it among the older football venues in Paraguay, predating most of the stadiums built for national teams and continental tournaments elsewhere in South America. Some accounts point to a formal reopening on 4 March 1928, suggesting the current structure owes more to a later rebuild than to whatever stood on the site at the turn of the century — the kind of layered history common to grounds this old, where the founding date and the building date are not quite the same thing.
Capacity has moved with the times. Work completed in 2022 and 2023 pushed the figure toward 7,500, well above the 4,400 some older listings still carry, and the gap between those numbers is really just the story of a small stadium being brought up to date rather than replaced. The pitch remains natural grass, tightly kept given how close the stands sit to the touchline.
The name honours Arsenio Erico, the Paraguayan forward whose scoring record in Argentine football has never been matched, and it is worth remembering that this is not the national stadium — that role belongs to the Defensores del Chaco across town in Sajonia. La Visera is Nacional's own ground, smaller and older, and treated accordingly.
