Estadio Carlos Vega Villalba

Estadio Carlos Vega Villalba sits in the Tres Cruces neighbourhood. The old head of the crowd settled down in 2018 when the expansion finished, adding a second tier to the eastern side and bringing the total to 20,777. Before that, the 2014 works had stripped the place back to 14,000 seats as they fitted professional lighting and a video screen.

The ground earned its nickname long before the name changed. Locals called it the Colossus of Tres Cruces when the original concrete stands first opened in 1986, then renamed it for Carlos Vega Villalba, a youth coach who had shaped generations of players in the city. The old name, Estadio Francisco Villa, still hangs on some banners, though the club Mineros de Zacatecas plays under the new sign. The pitch itself has not changed much; natural grass runs from one penalty area to the other, and the floodlights throw a bright rectangle over it when the sky turns grey.

The stadium has seen its share of bad nights. A final in 2023 was suspended when fights broke out among fans, and another incident in 2024 involved an explosion near a police vehicle. These things do not happen often, but when they do, the table goes out of the window. More usually, the ground works quietly: a short corner is worked, a substitution is thrown on, and the evening passes without incident. The track keeps the players and the supporters separate, but the distance between them is short enough that a shouting match can still reach across it.
