Estádio Ciro Machado do Espírito Santo (Defelê)
Brasília, Brazil
Defelê opened its gates on 18 December 1960 with a 5-0 rout of Grêmio Brasiliense, a scoreline that set the tone for a ground built to house football in a city that, at the time, was itself barely finished. Brasília had been founded only months earlier, and the stadium rose alongside the Vila Planalto workers' camp, in the Acamp DFL sector on Trecho 10 — a corner of the capital shaped by the labourers who built it rather than by the planners' grand avenues.
The pitch is natural grass, and it wears the climate of the central plateau: long dry spells that leave patches of bare earth showing through, a texture more common to modest regional grounds than to a capital-city venue. There is no artificial surface here to smooth over the seasons.
At just under seven thousand seats, Defelê was never built to compete with the giants that would later rise elsewhere in the Federal District. Its scale belongs to a different era of the city's football, one where a single midweek result against a crosstown rival could matter more than any question of capacity.
