What opened in October 1946 as the Estadio Olímpico de la Ciudad de los Deportes became the Azulgrana in 1983, then the Azul in 1996, and the ground built for a college-football fixture — Pumas UNAM against the Aguiluchos del Colegio Militar, decided 45-0.

The pitch itself changed character in recent years. Natural grass had always carried the ground, but between 2018 and 2019 the club tried a hybrid surface before reverting to turf, a small experiment in a stadium that otherwise kept its shape for decades.

The more disruptive break came later. Structural problems forced the authorities to shut the stadium down in 2024, and América had to relocate for its home fixtures.

No club currently lists it as a permanent base, and no official stadium site exists to fill in the gaps — the address on record narrows only to Avenida de los Deportistas, without a house number attached. What remains fixed is the capacity, just under thirty-seven thousand, a figure that has outlasted every name the ground has carried.
