Atlante U21 plays in Liga MX U21, the division built for club reserve sides; Transfermarkt records it as a participant heading into the 2026/27 season.

The nickname attached to Atlante at every level, Los Potros de Hierro, the Iron Colts, dates to the 1940s, long before any reserve league existed. Blue and garnet — azul y granate — are the colours behind it, the same pairing that gave the club its older nickname, Los Azulgranas. Founded in 1916, the parent club has carried both names since.

The rivalry that comes with the crest is with Necaxa, a fixture old enough to be called Mexican football's first clásico; América is the newer one. Both, when scheduled, are played at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, also known as the Estadio Azulgrana, the senior side's ground in Mexico City, which holds 36,681.
