The gates opened on New Year's Day, 1964. The first match on the new pitch ended 4-0 to Benfica.

Since that afternoon the ground has belonged to Leixões Sport Club. The lane running up to the turnstiles serves the club's premises as well as the arena itself, which is why the address stops at Lugar da Cruz de Pau and no building number follows it. Administratively the site falls within the freguesia of Senhora da Hora, part of the municipality of Matosinhos. Rua da Quinta Seca points to the same complex.

The playing surface has stayed natural grass throughout, relva natural in the club's own wording.
