Estádio dos Aflitos
Recife, Brazil
The red and white stands of Estádio dos Aflitos sit close to the pitch, a design choice that keeps the crowd part of the action rather than distant observers. The name comes from the neighbourhood, Nossa Senhora dos Aflitos.
Fire department inspection requirements forced the reduction from a previous capacity of 25,000 to the current 22,856, and the work was completed by December 2018.
The stadium was built by Clube Náutico Capibaribe, and its official name honours Eládio de Barros Carvalho, who served the club for 14 terms. The address is Avenida Rosa e Silva, 1030.
The glass barrier is a modern addition, but the essence of the place remains unchanged.
