They call it El Nido — the Nest — and for close to three decades the birds in it have been Alacranes de Durango. The ground came out of a public works push by the Durango state government under governor Enrique Torres Sánchez, laid out inside the Ciudad Deportiva off Avenida Universidad, and it opened its gates on 24 November 1957.

The titles arrived in clusters. Alacranes took the Invierno 1998 and then the Verano 1999, back to back, before a longer wait ended with the Clausura 2013. In May 2026 the ground held the first leg of the Liga Premier MX final against Halcones FC.

Because promotion brings paperwork as well as football, the stadium spent 2022 and 2023 being brought up to Liga de Expansión MX requirements: roughly 16 million pesos went on 500 seats under shade, rebuilt dressing rooms and toilets, new press boxes, CCTV and lighting. That followed an earlier improvement plan drawn up in 2015.

Others have borrowed the place when they needed somewhere to play. Dorados de Villa used it across 2014 and 2015, and Acaxees de Durango for a spell in 2020. In between the football it has taken concerts — RBD in August 2005, Kabah and Maluma within a week of each other in July 2017, Caifanes in March 2014.
