Estádio Germano Krüger
The pitch at the Germano Krüger is not sown with anything local. Operário Ferroviário bring in a frost-resistant grass from Canada.
The stadium carries the name of the man who drew it. Germano Krüger, an engineer of German descent, was president of Operário Ferroviário when he pushed the project through and designed the arena himself. In the 1950s it was renamed for Bento Munhoz da Rocha, a former governor of Paraná. Krüger's name came only in 1966, and has stayed since.
Football is not the whole of it. PG Phantoms, an American football side in Brasileirão D3, use the Germano Krüger for home fixtures and have staged finals on it. In 2012 Athletico Paranaense moved in temporarily while problems with their own infrastructure kept them out, treating a ground in Ponta Grossa as a first-division home for a season. No concerts or non-sporting events are on record here.
