The nickname does more work than the official name here: locals call it Toca do Índio, and that is how the ground is known around Praia de Itapoã, tucked into a beachside neighbourhood of Vila Velha rather than sitting in a conventional stadium district.

What sets it apart is scale, not spectacle. This is a ground built for one purpose — hosting Esporte Clube Tupy — and it has stayed that size since opening in 1938, with room for barely a thousand people at a time. There is no chase for a bigger bowl, no redevelopment story to tell. The pitch, a regulation 105 by 68 metres of natural grass, takes up most of what there is to say about the place physically.

Age is the other thing worth noting. Few grounds in the state of Espírito Santo have been in continuous use since the late 1930s, and Toca do Índio's survival through nearly nine decades, while so many contemporaries were rebuilt or abandoned, is itself the story. It has not needed a World Cup upgrade or a naming-rights rebrand to stay relevant locally — it simply kept functioning as Tupy's home pitch, close enough to the sea that the beach setting is as much a landmark for finding the place as any street address.
