Estadio Hugo Assaff

Tafí Viejo has one ground worth naming, and it belongs to Villa Mitre. The Estadio Hugo Assaff sits at the corner of Cochabamba and Batalla de Chacabuco: a single main stand on a roof held up by posts, bare cement seating, and two open ends behind the goals.

The name itself is recent. The ground carried it officially only from 2022, given during a match against Amalia in honour of Héctor Hugo Assaff, a longtime club director and former president who also started the Festival Nacional del Limón back in 1971 — an event still staged on the club grounds, its stage named for Mercedes Sosa. Assaff died in 2024.

Before that, locals knew it simply as the Villa Mitre ground, and older regulars still call it El Gigante. The pitch itself went through a full overhaul in May 2026 — levelling, aeration, drainage work, fresh turf, and a new automatic underground irrigation system.

The ground has had its moments. In August 2006, Villa Mitre beat Talleres 2-0 there to earn promotion within the Liga Tucumana. Further back, in 1975, the club hosted members of River Plate's storied 1930s side, La Máquina, with captain Alberto Cuello among the guests — a reception that still gets mentioned when older supporters talk about the place.
