Estádio João Hora de Oliveira
Aracaju, Brazil
The Estádio João Hora de Oliveira sits in the Siqueira Campos neighbourhood of Aracaju. Club Sportivo Sergipe call it home, and the name has never changed.
The year 1970 is the one that fits the first match, though some accounts point to 1969, when construction began or the land was donated by João Hora de Oliveira.
The capacity sits somewhere between 6,000 and 10,000 depending on whom you ask, and the numbers do not matter much when the crowd is small. During the closure of Batistão from 1998 to 2000 the ground took the professional matches citywide and ground out the win on nights when the stadium was the only option.
The atmosphere is not built on acoustics or architecture. It comes from being a local fixture: nothing grand, nothing distant, just the place where Sergipe play and the neighbourhood watches.
