The floodlights are the newest thing here, and they arrived late. In 2020 the Municipalidad de Palmares paid for the work itself — around 60 million colones — and had Stadium Source put up six concrete towers, 20 metres tall, carrying 48 LED lamps between them. The measured light on the pitch came to 370 lux. That was enough to bring official football back to the ground after dark for the first time since 1997, a gap of more than two decades in which anything played here had to finish before the light went.

The name dates from 29 April 1979, when the ground was formally given to Хорхе Солис Варгас — Jorge "Palmareño" Solís (1932–1993), born in the town, later a Costa Rica international and a player in Mexico, most notably with Atlas. What the ground was called before that, and who built it, is not recorded. The name has stayed as it was; no sponsor has ever bought it.

The pitch is synthetic and there is no running track around it, so the stands sit close to the touchlines. Little else has changed: no rebuilt terraces, no reshaped infrastructure, only the lighting.

The town lies in Alajuela province, roughly 50 kilometres west of San José. АД КОФУТПА (Asociación Deportiva Palmares) plays here now. Before that the ground belonged to АД Пальмаренья, which used it from 1978 until 1996 — the club whose departure sits close to the year the night matches stopped.
