Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo

Founded on 22 March 1923 and opened on 26 April 1924, the Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo predates most of the grounds Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata now plays against, and it has kept the name locals gave it from the start: El Bosque, after the wooded park it sits inside on Calle 118. The architect was Leonardo Cole, and the opening fixture, a 3-0 win over Estudiantil Porteño on 27 April 1924, is still the reference point the club uses when it marks anniversaries.

The pitch is natural grass, tucked into the Barrio El Mondongo section of La Plata, a city laid out on a strict grid in the 1880s and known for exactly this kind of green space woven into its street plan. The stadium's setting inside the park, rather than on an open plot, is what separates it from the newer bowls built for single tournaments elsewhere in Argentina.

Capacity is listed at 24,544, though the figure has moved over the club's history as sections were rebuilt and safety limits revised, and older references citing numbers well above 30,000 reflect earlier configurations rather than the ground as it stands now.

Gimnasia y Esgrima has called El Bosque home for over a century, and the stadium's identity is bound to the club's own: Gimnasia is one of the oldest football and multi-sport clubs in Argentina, and the ground has never hosted another tenant as its primary occupant.
