Estadio La Corregidora

The ground was built to a deadline set elsewhere. Querétaro's state government put the design out to competition among local architects, and Luis Alfonso Fernández Siurob won it; work began in March 1983 and finished in December 1984, with the doors opening that February. The point of the hurry was the 1986 FIFA World Cup, and the ground duly took four group matches and a Round of 16 tie, among them Uruguay's 1–1 draw with West Germany and Denmark's 5–1 win over Spain — a night when the crowd was counted at 38,500, more than the seats then in place, because standing room was still part of the count.

Its name came from a public contest too, and honours Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez, La Corregidora, of the Mexican War of Independence. No sponsor has bought it off her since.

Ahead of the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup the ground was converted to an all-seater, which brought the figure down rather than up, and a video screen and new lighting went in at the same time. The attendance record therefore belongs to the older arrangement: 35,575, reached more than once, including Mexico's 5–0 win over Poland in February 1985.

Since then it has staged two domestic finals for Querétaro FC — the Clausura 2015 league final against Santos Laguna and the 2016 Copa MX final against Chivas — and, after crowd violence during the Atlas match of 5 March 2022, sat empty of Liga MX football for a year while security was reviewed.
