Estádio Lourival Gomes de Almeida
Saquarema, Brazil
Formerly: Lourivaldão, Lourivalzão
Sampaio Corrêa finished building their ground on the Estrada do Tinguí in 2010, but no crowd saw a match there for another three years. Things came to a head only when the fire service signed off on the venue in 2013, and it was that certificate, not the concrete, that decided when the doors actually opened to the public.
The stadium sits in the district of Sampaio Corrêa, on the edge of Saquarema, and carries the name of Lourival Gomes de Almeida, the club's founder and honorary president. Fans and the local press rarely use the full name, calling it Lourivaldão, or sometimes Lourivalzão.
The pitch is natural grass, and visiting reports have rated its condition well above what a ground this size might suggest. That standard may explain why the record crowd through the turnstiles came for a fixture Sampaio Corrêa were not even playing in: Botafogo against Portuguesa-RJ in the Campeonato Carioca, on 15 January 2025, when 3,798 people filled a stadium built to host a much smaller club's Saturday afternoons.
