Estadio Luis "Pirata" Fuente
Boca del Río, Mexico
Formerly: Estadio Veracruzano
Estadio Luis “Pirata” Fuente is the only ground in Boca del Río. The city is small, and the stadium is the town’s centre.
The playing surface is natural grass. The seats are arranged in simple blocks of white, grey and black, with none of the fuss that went into the original 1967 design. This is a functional space, built for the weather and the view. The crowd does not arrive here for the architecture; they arrive for the team.
There is a statue of a shark outside, painted in red and silver, standing on a plinth near the main gate. It is the only decoration visible. The building itself is painted red, a colour that has not faded despite the sun. The floodlights stand tall and white, ready for the night games. The place is not grand, but it is honest. It has been through a lot, from the earthquake in 1995 to the club’s collapse and the rebuild that started in 2022. It is open again, and the grass is green.
