Fluminense keep their oldest ground tucked inside Laranjeiras, wedged against the hill and hemmed in by residential streets, and it has never chased the scale of the arenas built for the club's first team. Six thousand seats is the ceiling here, and that number has held largely because there is nowhere left to grow.

The pitch dates back further than the current structure suggests. A field on this site, Campo da Rua Guanabara, predates the stadium proper, and the ground that replaced it in 1914 only took its finished form on 11 May 1919, when Fluminense marked the reopening with the fanfare of a club settling into a home it meant to keep. That date, not the earlier construction, is the one the club still points to.

What Laranjeiras has not done in over two decades is host a professional match. Safety permits have not been renewed since 2003, and the ground has instead settled into life as a training base and a piece of institutional memory rather than a matchday venue. Fluminense still use the address for club business and youth football, but the turnstiles that once let supporters in for first-team games stay closed.

The natural grass pitch remains regulation size, kept up despite the absence of senior fixtures, and the address on Rua Álvaro Chaves has not changed since the club settled there. No separate stadium authority runs the place — it lives under Fluminense's own administration, which is fitting for a ground that has spent most of its history as an extension of the club rather than a civic venue in its own right.
