Stadium
Estádio Metropolitano de Pituaçu
Salvador, Brazil
Formerly: Estádio Metropolitano Roberto Santos
Its story is tied to the collapse of the city's main arena in 2007. When that venue failed, the state turned to this ground. The concrete was poured and the new pitch laid before the 2009 season began.
You can see the result of that investment in the scale of the structure. The capacity now sits at 32,157, a figure reached when the crowd packed in for a Série B match against Portuguesa.
Bahia uses the ground when the new arena is full or unavailable. The Brazil national team once played a World Cup qualifier here, beating Chile 4–2 in September 2009.
The ground has hosted finals and qualifiers, but it remains a place where the local league finds its footing.
