Riazor sold its name to a bank years ago; A Malata never has.

The stadium took shape gradually rather than all at once: a first match was played on the pitch in April 1993, months before the formal inauguration that August. Five architects worked on the design together — Juan Pérez López de Gamarra, Francisco Iglesias Miño, Juan Rey-Cabarcos, Vicente Fernández-Cuto and Alfredo Alcalá Navarro — and the construction firm Agromán, part of the Ferrovial group, built it for the city council, which still owns it and has never leased the naming rights to a sponsor.

The record crowd is a recent one: 9,026 turned out on 26 May 2024 as Racing de Ferrol drew 2-2 with CD Leganés in the second tier.
