Estádio Municipal Doutor Novelli Júnior
The busiest day this ground has on record came in a defeat, not a celebration. On 5 February 1994, 18,802 people filled Estádio Municipal Doutor Novelli Júnior to watch Palmeiras beat the home side 6-1 — still the highest attendance the stadium has logged, above the capacity later set for it.
The ground was rebuilt before it was rebuilt again. It first opened on 25 May 1947, then went through a second inauguration on 28 March 1954, barely seven years later. It belongs to the municipality of Itu, in the Vila Leis district, and Ituano Futebol Clube has used it as a home ground.
The most recent overhaul ran through 2010 and 2011, costing the city around 6 million reais. Plastic seating replaced the old benches, the floodlighting was improved, and new boxes went up, pushing capacity toward 18,000-19,000. The pitch had already been relaid in 2007, with Bermuda grass laid down as the surface still in use.
