Ituano waited fifty-five years after its founding for a first Campeonato Paulista title, then twelve more for a second: the São Paulo state championship went to the club in 2002 and again in 2014, in a state where São Paulo, Palmeiras, Santos and Corinthians usually keep the trophy for themselves. The 2002 side added the Copa Paulista the same year, a domestic double the club has not repeated since.

Founded on 24 May 1947 in Itu, in the interior of São Paulo state, Ituano plays its home matches at the Estádio Municipal Doutor Novelli Júnior, known locally as Novelli Júnior, which holds 16,749 spectators. The team wears red and black, and its nickname, Galo, the Rooster, gives the derby against Paulista FC its name: Briga de Galo, the cockfight. A second local rivalry, against São Bento, is known as the Itubento derby.

Beyond the state, the closest Ituano has come to a national crown is the Série C, Brazil's third tier, won in 2003 and again in 2021. The Série A, the top flight itself, remains the one title missing from a record built since 1947.
