About

The Campeonato Paulista Sub-20 is the official state championship for under-20 football clubs within the São Paulo state of Brazil. Organized by the Federação Paulista de Futebol (FPF), the tournament acts as a primary feeder competition for senior teams in the region. Although the modern iteration was formally established in 2012, the competition traces its origins to 1926 when it began as a "Segundos Quadros" tournament. It is distinct from the national Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, functioning instead as a local league held primarily between February and May.

The season structure involves a group stage followed by knockout rounds. The top tier, Série A, typically features numerous clubs divided into groups. The final stages, including quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final, are played in a two-legged format involving home and away matches. Promotion and relegation exist between Série A and Série B, ensuring movement between the divisions.

Palmeiras is the most successful club in the competition's history, having won titles in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2023. Corinthians also holds a strong record with victories in 2012, 2015, and 2020. In 2024, Grêmio Novorizontino claimed the championship. The 2025 edition concluded with Santos defeating São Paulo in a penalty shootout following a dramatic comeback. Santos currently holds the title as the reigning champion.

The tournament provides a consistent platform for youth development, focusing on local talent within the state. Unlike invitational events, this competition requires participation specifically from São Paulo clubs. The format ensures prolonged engagement for teams through multiple phases, culminating in decisive two-legged finals. This structure supports the long-term growth of players aiming to progress to senior football levels.
